Natural Pet Essentials was developed out of my love for animals which began at a very young age. Growing up in Illinois, I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by two amazing mixed-breed dogs and a host of cats throughout my childhood.
When it was time to leave the nest, I decided to incorporate my love of animals into my career choice by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the University of Illinois, which included a nutrition internship at the Nestle Purina Product Technology Center in St. Joseph, Missouri. To gain additional experience while in college, I had the great opportunity to observe and work with one of my instructors and a renowned dog trainer at her training facility in central Illinois. I also volunteered extra time at the local humane society where I met the first love of my life, a German Shepherd/Border Collie mix, Button.
After college, I moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, with my husband and Button, where I worked at the Norfolk SPCA and several different veterinary clinics. Once again, I had the great fortune of working with a few outstanding veterinarians that mentored me and helped me to gain considerable knowledge of the veterinary world, as they were always quick to answer my millions of questions and support me in various animal endeavors. During our time in Chesapeake, my husband and I adopted three English Bulldogs–two rescues and one puppy.
We then moved to Aberdeen, North Carolina, where I was lucky enough to obtain a position at a locally owned natural pet supply store, the Cared-For Canine & Cat. After having worked in the veterinary field for several years, I was not familiar with the natural approach, and I admit I had my doubts. But after about six months of learning from the owner, working with the customers, and gathering their feedback, I readily adjusted my thinking and was no longer doubtful of a world of natural pet care. I continued to educate myself on products and more holistic methods. I started taking all four of our dogs to a holistic veterinarian who was more than willing to work with me and educate me on a variety of things, combining my knowledge of Western medicine with Eastern theory and technique.
So, now my husband and I, along with our three bulldogs, Hannah, Harley, and Scarlett, have settled in Charlottesville, where I plan to use my extensive knowledge and experience to provide pet consultation and quality pet products as the owner of Natural Pet Essentials, LLC. The store is the fulfillment of a passion and a dream, and I am thrilled at the prospect of bringing to Charlottesville what has given me so much pleasure and satisfaction in my own life. I look forward to meeting you, greeting you, and assisting you with your personal pet needs!
